About Coach Courtney

Courtney Burns has spent her adult life helping people create more satisfying and stress-free lives. First as an executive, volunteer and mother – and now as a life coach – Courtney guides others to embrace positive change in their careers, marriages, and families.

Since family is her greatest passion, it’s no surprise that Courtney’s specialty is helping parents and their children live more fulfilling lives, despite multiple demands on their time and energy. “Nothing is more important,” says Coach Courtney, “than raising productive and happy children. And it all starts with productive and happy parents.” Which, as Courtney knows first-hand from the obstacles she and her loved ones have faced over the years, is not as easy as it sounds.

A native Texan, Courtney graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a Bachelor of Arts degree in speech communication and a minor in psychology. After completing her education, Courtney was appointed sales manager for United Home Craft, one of Dallas’s major homebuilders. After several years with United Home Craft, Courtney moved on to become a national account manager for ADT Home Security. In her two years at ADT, Courtney was promoted three times and was on her way to a very promising career.

Courtney has been married for thirteen years to Tom Burns, President of Thomas E. Burns Properties, Inc. and Associate Partner of Hendricks & Partners, the nation’s largest apartment realty firm. While still at United Home Craft, Courtney learned to balance a challenging career with an active family as she helped raise Tom’s two children from his previous marriage, who lived with them full-time.

When Courtney later became pregnant while she was employed at ADT, she made the difficult but ultimately rewarding decision to resign from the corporate world so she could stay home and care for her two stepchildren and new daughter. States Courtney, “I’ve had a lot of exciting jobs in my career, but nothing can equal the satisfaction of making sure my family is healthy and happy.”

Within a few years, Courtney was back at work in a completely new capacity. Always closely involved in her husband’s business activities, Courtney took on an official role when she became vice president and chief financial officer of Thomas E. Burns Properties, Inc. Utilizing her financial and sales training, Courtney began to oversee investments, taxes, and accounting processes for the company. Once again, through focus and hard work (and a great partner!), Courtney was able to establish a successful balance between work and family life.

But it wasn’t always easy. In the sixteen years Courtney and her husband have been together, they’ve dealt with devastating challenges, including bankruptcy, chronic illness, addiction and even the conviction and prison sentencing of a family member. Through honesty, courage and positive action, Courtney and Tom have prevailed. As a result, their marriage has become stronger and their faith deeper.

Now, step-daughter Kasey is a graduate of University of North Texas at Denton and works in the non-profit sector for Winners for Life, an organization dedicated to helping young people. Step-son Taylor is a junior at the University of Texas at Dallas and a successful local musician. Tom and Courtney’s daughter, Mikael, is a thriving second grader.

As a life coach, Courtney brings the full range of her professional skills, personal passions and dynamic personality to others. Trained under international coach and consultant Libby Gill, Courtney guides people to cope with the everyday and extraordinary challenges to create purposeful and satisfying lives.
